AIUDF Steps Up Early Preparations for 2026 Assam Assembly Elections

Political activity has intensified in Assam even as the 2026 Assembly election schedule is yet to be announced. The AIUDF has reportedly decided to contest in over 17 constituencies, including Lumding.
In Lumding, ticket aspirant Sabir Ahmed has begun public outreach across Udali, Nakhuti and Lumding, engaging with voters and party workers. He ruled out any alliance with the BJP and admitted that leaving the seat to Congress in the last election was a strategic error.
Ahmed said AIUDF aims to field strong candidates in 2026, noting that minority voters form a majority in the constituency. Sources also indicate that party chief Badruddin Ajmal may contest from Binnakandi, with several other candidates under consideration across Assam. No official confirmation has been made yet.
