AJP Candidate’s Mother Considers Defamation Suit Against Himanta Biswa Sarma

Hours after Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath for a second term, Sujata Gurung Chowdhury, mother of AJP candidate Kunki Chowdhury, said she is considering filing a Re 1 defamation case against him and has demanded a public apology.

In an open letter, Sujata alleged that Sarma made false and defamatory remarks about her during the Assembly election campaign, which she said damaged her reputation and endangered her family. She also claimed photos of her minor children were circulated publicly.

Sujata had earlier approached the National Commission for Women over the issue. There has been no official response yet from Sarma or the BJP.
