AJP Slams Assam Govt’s Land Law Reforms, Demands Transparency and Indigenous Rights
The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has opposed the Assam government’s land law reforms, calling them secretive and harmful to indigenous rights. At a public meeting in Guwahati, AJP demanded a six-month extension for public feedback and criticized the ‘Basundhara’ scheme as misused. The party urged implementation of past land reform panel reports and resettlement of erosion-hit families. A 15-member public committee will draft an alternative land policy. AJP also demanded full transparency on the proposed Kulsi hydropower project and called for enforcing the Forest Rights Act, 2006.
