AJYCP Holds Massive Protest in Nagaon Demanding Protection of Indigenous Rights

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a massive protest in Nagaon district on December 29, demanding protection of land and political rights of indigenous communities, especially in Karbi Anglong.
Thousands of protesters from several districts marched through Nagaon town, raising slogans against outsider dominance and calling for safeguards for tribal regions. The agitators also demanded measures like dual citizenship and an inter-state permit system.
After the rally, AJYCP submitted a memorandum to the Assam Chief Minister through the District Commissioner, urging immediate action. Meanwhile, authorities said the situation in West Karbi Anglong, which earlier saw violence during similar agitations, is now under control.
