Akhil Gogoi Warns Form 8 May Let External Voters Influence 2026 Assam Polls

Raijor Dal chief and MLA Akhil Gogoi warned that loopholes in Form 8 could allow non-residents to enter Assam’s voter list, affecting the 2026 Assembly elections. He said people from other states could claim they have no Aadhaar and get registered without proper verification, potentially influencing results in nearly 50 constituencies.

Gogoi alleged this system enables “organised vote theft” by allowing voters to shift between states and vote multiple times. He urged opposition parties to move the Supreme Court and demanded stricter verification to ensure only genuine residents are included. He cautioned that the current process threatens Assam’s democratic integrity.
