Ancient Temple Ruins Unearthed in Assam’s Nagaon District
A significant archaeological discovery has been made in Harlongkuruati village, Borgaon, near Kampur in Nagaon district. During dam construction along the Kopili River, an excavator uncovered remnants of a stone temple plinth, believed to date back to the 10th-12th century.
A team led by the Directorate of Archaeology, Assam, confirmed the findings, including broken deity sculptures and a linear arrangement of stone slabs. Another similar site was identified in Bundura village, 15 km north. Authorities plan further excavations and preservation efforts with local support.
