Anti-Corruption Crackdown in Assam: Two Officials Arrested for Bribery

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, arrested Saumyabrata Bhattacharjee, a Senior Administrative Assistant at the Cachar District Commissioner’s office, after he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe on Wednesday. Bhattacharjee demanded the bribe for issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a land-related matter.
In a related incident on June 6, 2024, the anti-corruption team apprehended Swapna Medhi, a Lot Mandal and Circle Officer at the Guwahati Revenue Circle, Kamrup (M). Medhi was involved in a bribery scheme for Namjari-related work, with the bribe being accepted through a middleman who was also caught red-handed.
These arrests highlight ongoing efforts by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption to tackle corruption in Assam’s administrative offices.
