Anti-Corruption Team Traps Forest Officials in Assam Bribery Sting

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam conducted two successful operations on Thursday, catching forest officials accepting bribes. Gopal Deka, Forest Beat Officer of Gabhoru Beat in Sonitpur district, was trapped after accepting a bribe to allow unhindered movement of vehicles carrying forest products. In a separate operation, Jnana Ranjan Das, DFO of Social Forestry in Golaghat, was caught accepting a Rs. 30,000 bribe at his official residence to avoid cancelling a work order. Investigations are ongoing in both cases.
