ASHA Workers will keep protesting in support of minimum wage

According to general secretary Noni Likson and president of the Assam State ASHA Union (ASAU), Mamata Rabha, the ASHA workers will not give up on their demands for the minimum wage.

The president and general secretary issued a statement announcing that the ASHA workers would continue to demonstrate in order to obtain a minimum wage of Rs 21,000. The union insisted on paying them a living wage while waiting for a fixed minimum wage. ASHA workers get additional tasks from the Health Department in addition to their regular duties. The Assam government gives just Rs 1000, but some states have already raised the pay from Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000.
