Ashiq Ali’s Parents Seek Fair Probe Into Nimisha Thakuria Death Case

Guwahati: The parents of Ashiq Ali, arrested in connection with the death of Gauhati University student Nimisha Thakuria, have called for a thorough investigation, saying their son should face legal punishment if proven guilty and that police should establish whether anyone else was involved.

Ali is currently in police custody at Gorchuk Police Station. His parents said they had opposed his relationship with Nimisha after learning about it, citing differences in their family backgrounds and religious communities. His father also said Ali had left home after telling his mother he was going to meet someone and did not return. Meanwhile, police are examining the homestay linked to the incident and have detained four other persons — Jayanta Chaki, Bipul Bailung, Pranjal Basumatary and Nitul Ali — as part of the ongoing investigation.
