ASPTA Demands Revision of No-Detention Policy
The Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association (ASPTA) has urged Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu to align with the Centre’s changes to the no-detention policy under the Right to Education Act.
ASPTA emphasized that canceling the policy would enhance education quality. Dr. Pegu stated that Assam already implemented exams for Class V and VIII in 2022, allowing students a second chance to pass before retention.
The Union Ministry proposed a uniform system requiring competency-based exams and remedial measures for struggling students, ensuring holistic development without reliance on rote learning.
