Assam’s Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department reports that 80.40% of rural households now have tap water connections, largely due to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Since the program’s launch in August 2019, 56.41 lakh additional households have gained access to tap water. Majuli district leads with 93.1% coverage, while Karbi Anglong lags with 53.7%. The department aims to provide tap water to all eligible households by March 2026.
