Assam Assembly Informed on Deportation of Illegal Foreigners and Border Fencing Status

The Assam Assembly was informed that between December 20, 2025, and January 31, 2026, 51 declared foreigners and one illegal immigrant were expelled under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950. Another 1,421 illegal foreigners were sent back between February 2025 and January 2026 as per Union Home Ministry orders.

Assam Accord Implementation Minister Atul Bora said over 1.70 lakh illegal foreigners have been detected so far, with around 31,000 pushed back in the last 40 years. Border fencing along the India-Bangladesh border in Assam is nearly complete, except for a 4.35 km stretch in Sribhumi.

Bora also stated that most recommendations of the Justice Biplab Sharma Committee on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord are under implementation, while remaining proposals have been referred to the Centre.
