Assam Assembly Passes ₹2.85 Lakh Crore Budget

Dispur: The Assam Legislative Assembly on Thursday approved the ₹2.85 lakh crore Budget for 2026–27, paving the way for the state government’s development and welfare initiatives. The Budget focuses on employment generation, infrastructure, social welfare and industrial growth.
The government has announced a target of creating 2 lakh jobs over the next five years, increased tax relief for small tea growers and reduced VAT on piped natural gas. It also introduced a green cess and stated that individuals practising polygamy will be ineligible for government welfare schemes, while government employees violating the rule may face dismissal.
