Assam Backs Centre’s Two-Slab GST Reform

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced full support for the Centre’s proposal to reduce GST to two slabs—5% and 18%. He termed it a “super booster” for the economy, aiding MSMEs, job creation, and consumption. The 56th GST Council meeting, chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, is deliberating on removing the 12% and 28% slabs while retaining a special 40% tax on tobacco and luxury goods.
