Assam Bans Hospitals From Withholding Bodies Over Unpaid Bills

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that private hospitals in Assam can no longer detain bodies due to unpaid bills. Calling the practice unconstitutional, he said legal steps-not force-should be used to recover dues. A helpline will be launched for families to seek police help in such cases. A final policy will be discussed in the next cabinet meeting to end this inhumane practice.
