Silchar-Kalain Bridge Collapses, Inquiry Ordered; Bailey Bridge in 10 Days

A bridge on the Silchar-Kalain highway collapsed early Wednesday at Bhangarpar, disrupting Barak Valley’s road link to Tripura and Mizoram. Two overloaded trucks fell into the Harang River; no casualties were reported. Minister Kaushik Rai confirmed a probe has been launched and FIRs filed against violating vehicles. A bailey bridge will be built in 10 days with Army help. A 2 km diversion route is open for light vehicles only. The damaged bridge was recently repaired for ₹68 lakhs.
