Assam Begins Char Area Survey to Identify Residents and Enhance Security

The Assam government has launched a survey of char areas to determine the population and map the regions accurately. Officials, along with drones, are assessing both permanent and seasonal chars, many of which lack administrative oversight and security.

The survey aims to identify Indian citizens and detect illegal migrants or criminal activity, especially near the India-Bangladesh border in Dhubri. Land patta distribution remains uncertain, as verifying nationality is a complex issue. The Justice Biplab Sarma committee had earlier recommended this survey under Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.
