Assam Book Fair 2025 to Expand into Major Literary Festival

The Assam Book Fair in Guwahati will be held from December 24 for 14 days at the Khanapara Veterinary College playground, with an expanded scale and national participation. Organised by the Publication Board Assam with book publishers’ associations, the fair will feature 135 stalls, including publishers from Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Assam.

A key highlight will be the felicitation of 818 young writers with Rs 25,000 each. Literary events include a multilingual poets’ meet on January 3 and sessions honouring Assam’s literary heritage. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will inaugurate the fair, with author Amish Tripathi as a special guest. The Assam Publication Board Sahitya Award will be presented to Dipak Kumar Bokakoti. Organisers said the focus remains on promoting reading culture and giving Assamese literature a national platform.
