Assam Cabinet Ministers to Assess Flood Damages in Barak Valley Next Week

Guwahati, July 4, 2024 โ€“ A dedicated team of Assam Cabinet ministers is set to visit the flood-affected regions of Barak Valley next week. The team will conduct a thorough assessment of the damages caused by the recent floods in all three districts of the valley. This move comes in response to the severe impact of the monsoon rains, which have led to widespread flooding, affecting thousands of residents and causing significant damage to infrastructure.

The high-level ministerial delegation will examine the extent of the destruction and meet with local officials and affected communities to understand their immediate needs and challenges. This visit aims to expedite relief efforts and ensure that the state government provides necessary support to the affected areas.

In a related development, Honorable Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to embark on an extensive four-day tour of Barak Valley later this month. During his visit, the Chief Minister will review the flood situation firsthand, interact with the residents, and oversee the implementation of relief measures. Dr. Sarma’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the crisis and aiding in the recovery process.

The Barak Valley, comprising Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi districts, has been one of the hardest-hit regions by the floods this year. The continuous rainfall has led to swollen rivers, inundated villages, and disrupted daily life, prompting the state government to take swift action.

The upcoming visits by the Cabinet ministers and the Chief Minister are expected to bring much-needed attention to the plight of the flood-affected people and pave the way for effective and timely interventions.
