Assam Cancels Over 1.24 Lakh Ration Cards in December 2024

In December 2024, Assam canceled 1,24,980 ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). The deletions included 68 Antodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and 1,24,912 Priority Household (PHH) cards due to issues like Aadhaar non-linkage, ineligibility, and deceased beneficiaries.

Authorities noted some cardholders exceeded the income cap of ₹4 lakh or were government employees, making them ineligible.

Around 19 lakh new beneficiaries were identified, with 17 lakh added to the system. Currently, 70 lakh households, representing 2.45 crore individuals, benefit from the NFSA in Assam. New beneficiaries will start receiving grains from January 2025.
