Assam Chief Minister Urges Pre-Bihu Lok Sabha Polls, Requests Election Commission’s Cooperation

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that the state government has formally requested the Election Commission (EC) to schedule voting for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Assam before the mid-April Bihu festival. Sarma highlighted the festive atmosphere during Bihu celebrations and expressed the hope that concluding elections before the festival would enhance the electoral process. An EC team is set to visit Assam on March 5, with the Chief Secretary conveying the state’s request to the team. Sarma expressed optimism for a favorable response, emphasizing the desire to avoid any clash between the election fervor and the festive spirit of Bihu.
