Gauhati High Court Introduces Equal Opportunity Policy for Persons with Disabilities Across Jurisdiction

The Gauhati High Court has implemented an Equal Opportunity Policy for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) across its jurisdiction, encompassing Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh. Aligned with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the policy aims to eliminate discrimination, harassment, and ensure reasonable accommodation for PwDs in the court system. The High Court commits to revamping infrastructure to comply with accessibility standards, including provisions for elevators, wheelchairs, Braille signage, and more. The policy emphasizes equal opportunities in recruitment, vocational training, self-employment schemes, and residential accommodation allotment, reinforcing a barrier-free environment for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, regular training programs and data collection initiatives are outlined to support the implementation of the policy.
