Assam CM: 3,000 people will be arrested for child marriage over the next 10 days

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, issued a warning on Sunday that 3,000 people would be detained for engaging in child marriages in the state over the next ten days. He was speaking here on the final day of the BJP Mahila Morcha’s two-day national executive meeting.

Sarma claimed that he was holding off on launching the second round of crackdowns until the G20 summit’s conclusion. “5,000 people were detained for child marriages in Assam just six months ago. The crackdown was postponed until the G20 summit was over. Another 2,000 to 3,000 men will be detained within the next 10 days.
