Assam CM: 305 Infiltrators Pushed Back in 7 Months
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that 305 infiltrators, mostly Bangladesh nationals, were pushed back in the last seven months. He reiterated the state’s commitment to an infiltration-free Assam.
Sarma highlighted a rise in infiltration attempts, especially in Assam and Tripura, following unrest in Bangladesh. Around 1,000 infiltrators were sent back in 2024, with 20-30 cases reported daily. He attributed the influx to Bangladesh’s collapsing textile industry, alleging some Indian firms encourage it for cheap labor.
The CM discussed the issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and at the North East Council meeting. He assured strong action against infiltrators and extremist groups attempting to incite unrest in Assam.
