Assam CM Announces Power Tariff Reduction and Clause 6 Implementation Plans
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a power tariff reduction this year, citing profits made by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). The reduction will range between 50 paise and ₹1.5.
The CM also shared that Assam is set to acquire two hydroelectric projects, one in Bhutan and another in Arunachal Pradesh, which could further lower tariffs.
On the Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission’s recommendations for Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, Sarma said most would be implemented by April. Debatable issues, such as cadastral surveys in char areas, will be resolved in consultation with stakeholders, including the All Assam Students’ Union.
The government maintains active engagement with tribal groups on related matters.
