Assam CM Proposes Measures to Curb Crimes Against Women and Minorities

In the Assam Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma proposed a dual strategy to address crimes against women and minorities, responding to criticism from the Opposition. Sarma urged local MLAs, especially in minority-dominated areas, to take a more active role in ensuring safety. He also suggested that lawyers from the accused’s community should refrain from defending them to foster communal harmony and reduce sexual violence. Sarma’s proposals have sparked debate as the Assembly session continues amidst ongoing criticism of the government’s handling of these issues.
