Assam Congress Promises Restoration of Old Pension Scheme for Government Employees
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has included the issue of government employees under the National Pension System (NPS) in its election manifesto. The manifesto promises to restore the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) if the party comes to power, addressing concerns over the meagre pensions provided under the NPS. APCC chairman Bhabesh Chandra Das highlighted the plight of employees receiving inadequate pensions and criticized the government for neglecting their financial security. He pointed out that several Congress-ruled states have retained the OPS, contrasting with BJP-ruled states’ adherence to the NPS. Das emphasized the need for financial stability post-retirement and proposed funding for OPS through taxation on wealthy individuals, demonstrating the party’s commitment to employee welfare.
