Assam Congress Releases First List of 42 Candidates for 2026 Assembly Polls

The Assam Congress on Tuesday announced its first list of 42 candidates for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. The list was approved by the party’s Central Election Committee and released by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal.
APCC president Gaurav Gogoi will contest from Jorhat, while Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia has been fielded from Nazira. Senior leader Ripun Bora will contest from Barchalla, and Mira Borthakur Goswami has been nominated from Dispur.
The party also named Narayan Bhuyan as its candidate from Bihpuria, where a high-profile contest may occur if BJP fields Bhupen Bora, who recently joined the party.
The announcement comes amid ongoing seat-sharing discussions between Congress and Raijor Dal. More candidate lists are expected soon for the remaining constituencies in the 126-member Assam Assembly.
