Assam Cracks Down on Fake Doctors, 89 Arrested and 115 FIRs Filed

Guwahati: Assam’s Anti-Quackery and Vigilance Cell has arrested 89 alleged fake doctors, registered 115 FIRs and reported 15 suspects absconding. Established in January 2025, the cell has intensified action against unqualified medical practitioners and those using fraudulent credentials.

Anti-Quackery Officer Dr Abhijit Neog said strict legal action would continue against illegal medical practices. Recent cases include alleged fake doctors operating in hospitals, pharmacies and private clinics across Assam. The state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards quackery to protect public health.
