Assam Expands Rooftop Solar Capacity Across 35 Districts

Guwahati: Assam has installed 1,44,662 rooftop solar plants with a combined capacity of 476.43 MW across all 35 districts under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, as of June 30, 2026. The state is also developing Model Solar Villages, with selections completed in five districts and two detailed project reports prepared.

APDCL has also commissioned 245 MW of ground-mounted solar capacity and has around 2,000 MW of additional projects in the pipeline. Meanwhile, nearly 5,900 MW of pumped storage projects are under development, along with proposed battery storage capacity. However, efforts to secure land for additional solar projects have faced delays, with APGCL reporting no response to its requests for land allotment from district authorities.
