Assam Floods Claim Eight More Lives, Death Toll Reaches 66
The ongoing floods in Assam claimed eight more lives on Sunday, bringing the total death toll to 66. The fatalities occurred in Cachar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Nalbari, Dhemaji, and Sivasagar districts.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 28 out of 35 districts remain inundated, affecting over 22 lakh people across 3,446 villages. The floods have submerged 68,432 hectares of cropland and caused extensive damage to roads, bridges, and river embankments.
Currently, 269 relief camps are sheltering 53,689 affected individuals. Ten rivers, including the Brahmaputra and Barak, are flowing above danger levels.
In Kaziranga National Park, 68 out of 233 camps are submerged, affecting wildlife. So far, 129 animals have died, while 96 have been rescued. Extensive relief and rescue efforts by multiple agencies are ongoing.
