Assam Floods Intensify; Six Districts Affected, IMD Issues Red Alert

Guwahati: The first wave of floods in Assam intensified on Monday, affecting six districts—Dhemaji, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, and Dibrugarh. The IMD issued red alerts for Kokrajhar, Chirang, Tamulpur, and Baksa as heavy rainfall continued across the state.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and assured full support from the Centre for relief and rehabilitation efforts. Dhemaji remains the worst-hit district, with thousands of people affected and rescue operations underway with SDRF and NDRF teams.
Floodwaters have disrupted road and rail connectivity in several areas, including the suspension of train services between Archipathar and Simen Chapari after a railway bridge collapsed. Authorities remain on high alert as more heavy rainfall is forecast over the coming days.
