Assam Freezes Administrative Boundaries Ahead of Digital Census

The Assam government will freeze administrative boundaries from January 1 to facilitate upcoming census operations. All boundary changes must be completed by today. Preparations for the census are underway, accounting for changes since the last count, including villages upgraded to towns and municipal areas.
House listing will be the first stage, followed by creation of enumeration blocks, with about 800 households per block, fewer in remote and hilly regions. For the first time, the census will be conducted digitally using an app, making the process faster. Successful trial runs were held in Dibrugarh, Hailakandi, and Donkamokam, though officials noted internet connectivity may slow data uploads in remote areas.
