Assam Government Prohibits Doctors from Private Practice During Duty Hours

In line with directives from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Medical Education and Research Department has ordered government doctors, including medical college faculty, to cease practicing at private medical facilities during their assigned duty hours.

The Joint Director of Health Services, Assam, will conduct periodic inspections of private clinical establishments to enforce this rule. The responsibility for compliance lies with private hospitals and nursing homes, which face legal action for any violations. A monthly inspection report, including recommendations for action, must be submitted to the government.
