Assam Govt Committed to Implementing UCC: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday reaffirmed the BJP government’s commitment to implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, stating that every promise made in the party’s election manifesto would be fulfilled. Speaking in Guwahati, Sarma said the government would make “100% effort” to implement all manifesto commitments, including the UCC.

The UCC aims to introduce a common set of civil laws for all citizens, replacing religion-based personal laws related to marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption. The BJP has long supported the UCC, calling it a step toward equality and gender justice, while opposition parties and minority groups have raised concerns over its impact on cultural and religious diversity.
