Gauhati High Court Judge Recuses from Hearing Shyamkanu Mahanta’s Bail Plea

The hearing on the bail petition of Shyamkanu Mahanta, a prime accused in the case linked to Assam cultural icon Zubeen Garg’s death, could not proceed on Wednesday after Gauhati High Court Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia recused himself from the case.

Special Public Prosecutor Ziaul Kamar said the matter, listed before Justice Saikia’s bench, will now be placed before another appropriate bench by the court registry. Earlier, a Guwahati fast-track court had rejected Mahanta’s bail plea, following which he approached the High Court seeking relief.
