Assam Govt Employees Strike Demanding Return of Old Pension Scheme

Government employees across Assam staged protests demanding the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), leading to a day-long shutdown of administrative work in multiple districts.

Employees gathered outside district offices with placards, accusing the New Pension Scheme of creating financial insecurity for retirees. Protesters claimed many retired staff are struggling due to the lack of guaranteed benefits under NPS.

Similar demonstrations took place in Nagaon and other districts, with employees warning that agitation will intensify if the government does not act. They also criticised the failure to implement the promised Universal Pension Scheme.

Protesters said they will continue their movement until OPS is reinstated.
