Assam Govt Proposes Mandatory Swimming Skills for Officials

The Assam government plans to make swimming proficiency mandatory for Class I officers to enhance disaster preparedness in the flood-prone state. The proposal, discussed in the 51st State Executive Meeting, includes incentives like training reimbursement and linking promotions to swimming certification. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has already started training officials in Kamrup Metro. With over 40% of Assam’s land prone to floods, the policy aims to ensure safety and effective disaster response.
