Assam Govt to Grant Arms Licenses to Indigenous Residents in Vulnerable Areas

The Assam government will issue arms licenses to indigenous citizens in remote and vulnerable areas, including border zones, to help them defend against infiltration and security threats. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the scheme targets low-density, under-policed regions like Dhubri, Nagaon, and parts of Guwahati. Applicants must be original inhabitants with clean records and pass strict verification. Sarma called it a long-overdue step to empower locals and prevent land alienation.
