Assam Govt Warns Traders Against Abnormal Price Hike

The Assam government has directed strict action, including cancellation of trade licences, against shops and businesses found charging abnormal prices amid rising fuel and essential commodity costs.
After reviewing the price situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma instructed district officials to intensify market monitoring and ensure fair pricing. He also ordered mandatory display of retail and wholesale prices in shops across the state.
The move comes after a recent Rs 3 per litre fuel price hike triggered sharp increases in grocery and daily essential prices, leading to public protests and growing concern among residents.
