Assam Imports 31 Million Units of Solar Power Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has imported over 31 million units of excess solar power generated from residential rooftop systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, officials said.

Over 52,000 households in Assam have installed rooftop solar panels with a combined capacity of nearly 200 MW, while 3.5 lakh applications are still under process.

The state uses a net-metering system allowing consumers to offset power bills by exporting surplus solar energy to the grid.

At current rates, households receive subsidies of ₹45,000 for 1KW, ₹90,000 for 2KW, and ₹1.23 lakh for 3KW installations.

Barpeta tops district installations, while Assam ranks eighth nationally in completed rooftop solar projects.
