Assam–Karbi Talks Postponed Amid PM Modi’s State Visit

The second round of talks between the Assam government and the Karbi Samaj over recent violence in West Karbi Anglong has been postponed due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday. He assured that the dialogue would be rescheduled soon and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving issues through discussion.
The talks were planned amid tensions between Karbi and non-Assamese communities over alleged encroachment on grazing reserve lands. Violence during protests in December left two people dead and over 180 injured, prompting Army deployment and flag marches in the affected areas.
