Assam Litchi Prices Soar, Turning Popular Fruit into a Luxury Item

Guwahati: Assam’s famous GI-tagged litchi has become increasingly expensive this season, with prices ranging from around ₹40 per piece to as high as ₹1,800 per kg in some markets. The sharp rise has made the fruit unaffordable for many consumers.
Despite record production in the state, litchi has transformed from a common seasonal favourite into a luxury commodity, costing more than several imported fruits and leaving buyers shocked by its price.
