Assam Minister Confirms Decision to Shift Gauhati High Court for State-of-the-Art Judicial City

Amid speculations and protests surrounding the relocation of Gauhati High Court and other courts to North Guwahati, Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass clarified on Wednesday that the decision was made in consultation with the high court to establish a state-of-the-art judicial city. Responding to AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita’s query, Minister Dass explained that limited space near the current high court necessitated the move to create modern judicial infrastructure meeting long-term needs.

The new High Court building and associated structures for courts and tribunals in Kamrup (Metropolitan) district aim to provide ample lawyers’ rooms, seating areas, library space, sufficient parking, and other facilities. Dass addressed concerns about the protests by Gauhati High Court Bar Association members, pointing to a letter substantiating the decision and emphasizing its role in catering to the interests of both legal professionals and the public.
