Pro-talk ULFA Leader Advocates Indigenous Rights Amidst Northeastern Ethnic Conflicts

Amid the persisting ethnic conflicts in the Northeastern state, Golap Baruah, the General Secretary of Pro-talk ULFA leader, stressed the importance of safeguarding the rights of indigenous people in regions like Manipur and Assam. Speaking at the 17th Ningthoukhongjam Tombi State Equestrian Championship’s closing function in Imphal, Baruah highlighted the dire conditions faced by indigenous communities throughout the Northeast, citing the example of Tripura where they are gradually becoming a minority.

Baruah acknowledged the evolving situation, welcoming peace talks initiated by outfits like UNLF in Manipur. He emphasized the changed dynamics since the inception of ULFA’s armed struggle, expressing openness to negotiations with various groups. As the Chairman of the North East Indigenous Peoples Forum, Baruah urged the Indian and Assamese governments to respect their aspirations and initiate negotiations based on the demands of ULFA-I.
