Assam Now a ₹7 Lakh Crore Economy, Says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said the state has emerged as a contributor to the national economy, with its size crossing ₹7 lakh crore and projected to reach ₹10 lakh crore by 2028.

Calling it a “new Assam,” he described the past five years as a “golden era,” highlighting over 1.6 lakh government jobs, major infrastructure expansion, and more than 21,700 km of roads built.

Sarma also noted zero rhino poaching in 2022 and 2025, and investment commitments worth ₹3.27 lakh crore, including projects by the Tata Group.

He added that welfare schemes like Orunodoi and support for over 30 lakh women entrepreneurs reflect the state’s inclusive growth trajectory.
