Assam Opposition Welcomes Supreme Court’s Verdict on Section 6A of Citizenship Act

The Opposition in Assam has hailed the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, granting citizenship to immigrants who entered Assam before March 25, 1971. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee chief Bhupen Borah praised the verdict, accusing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of attempting to undermine the Assam Accord. Leaders from various parties, including the AIUDF and Rijor Dal, celebrated the decision as a victory for Assam’s identity and a reaffirmation of the Assam Accord’s principles.
