Assam Panchayat Elections Set within Six Months, Guardian Ministers to Oversee Interim Period
During the second day of the budget session in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, announced that panchayat elections in the state would be conducted within the next six months. Guardian ministers will oversee the panchayats until the elections, with a cabinet decision expected soon. Failure to hold elections within the stipulated timeframe may result in Assam losing the 15th Finance Commission grant. The state government has initiated preparations, planning to restructure each panchayat and form committees with District Commissioners as chairmen. The Election Commission will then create the voter list based on this information, with the entire process set to be completed within the next six months, as stated by Panchayat Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
