Assam Pollution Control Board Disputes Guwahati’s Pollution Ranking

In response to Guwahati being ranked the second most polluted city in 2023 by IQAir, the Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA) has refuted the findings, stating that the air pollution level in the city is ‘absolutely under control’. Despite IQAir’s report indicating high PM2.5 concentration, PCBA emphasized its monitoring efforts with advanced technology stations and cited government data showing an average air quality index (AQI) of around 52 for both 2022 and 2023. PCBA has raised the matter with the Assam government and the Centre, urging citizens to continue their normal activities without fear.
